A dawn fire on Monday destroyed parts of Singer Market, one of Kano’s largest commodity hubs. The blaze, which started around 5:00 a.m., prompted an immediate response from the Kano State Fire Service.
Confirming the incident, the agency’s spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, said firefighters were quickly dispatched. “Our personnel moved in without delay and worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to other areas,” he stated.
Shop owners hurried to the market hoping to rescue what they could as several goods were consumed by the flames. Early assessments suggested that items valued at millions of naira were lost in the incident.
Singer Market, located along Bello Road, is a major distribution centre for food items to states across northern Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
