Fire guts residential buildings in Gombe

A fire incident in Tumfure Quarters, Gombe State, has destroyed a two-bedroom flat and a three-bedroom detached residential building, according to the Federal Fire Service.

The Public Relations Officer of the FFS, Gombe State Command, ASF Bashir Muazu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, noting that firefighters responded promptly and prevented the blaze from spreading.

“No casualties were recorded,” he said.

“Our firefighters responded swiftly to the distress call and were able to confine the fire to the affected buildings. Their timely intervention prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby structures,” Muazu added.

According to preliminary assessments, property worth about ₦25 million was saved, while losses were estimated at about ₦5 million.

Muazu also appreciated the assistance of sister agencies during the operation.

“We appreciate the collaboration of the Gombe State Fire Service and security personnel from the Tumfure Divisional Police Station, whose support ensured a safe and coordinated operation,” he said.

The Service advised residents to prioritise fire safety by maintaining electrical connections, avoiding risky practices, and keeping basic firefighting tools available.

“We advise members of the public to regularly inspect and maintain their electrical installations, avoid practices that could trigger fire outbreaks, and keep basic firefighting equipment within reach. Prevention remains the most effective way to reduce fire incidents,” Muazu stated.

The incident occurred a day after a fire destroyed sections of the popular Singa Market in Kano, where traders reported damage to parts of the bustling commercial centre.
