FIFA and the Confederation of African Football have approved the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday eight clash between South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The stadium had come under scrutiny after Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, expressed concerns over the condition of the playing surface.
However, both FIFA and CAF confirmed that the pitch has shown significant improvement and is now suitable for the game.
“Considering the encouraging progress observed on the pitch, both organisations have agreed that the matches will proceed as originally scheduled at the Free State Stadium,” the joint statement from FIFA and CAF read.
Bafana Bafana will welcome the Super Eagles at the Toyota Stadium on Tuesday, September 9, with kick-off set for 5:00 pm Nigerian time.
