The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos for critical repairs, beginning on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The maintenance project is expected to last for 21 days.

Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to her, the closure—scheduled to commence at 7:00 a.m.—will affect both full and partial sections of the bridge.

“The repair work will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace damaged bearings and conducting other essential maintenance to enhance the safety and durability of the structure,” Kesha stated.

She acknowledged the inconvenience the closure might cause but stressed the importance of the rehabilitation work.

“We understand the discomfort this may bring to motorists and businesses around the area, but this is a necessary step to ensure the safety of all road users and improve their commuting experience,” she said.

Kesha noted that traffic diversion plans have been carefully developed, and traffic management personnel will be deployed to the area to assist with navigation and minimize congestion.

“Safety signs and traffic control measures will be in place throughout the duration of the closure. We appeal to all residents, commuters, and businesses in the vicinity to plan their movements accordingly and cooperate with officials on site,” she added.

The Federal Government urged the public to exercise patience as it carries out the much-needed rehabilitation of the aging infrastructure.
