FG to launch nationwide housing campaign

The Federal Government has announced plans to roll out a state-by-state homeownership and housing development campaign under its Renewed Hope Housing initiative.

According to The PUNCH, this move aims to close the housing gap across Nigeria by making affordable housing more accessible to citizens of all income levels.

Speaking at the 19th Africa International Housing Show in Abuja, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, disclosed that the campaign would be launched in all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.

“The initiative is a high-impact outreach programme designed to bridge the gap between national housing policy and state-level implementation,” Dangiwa said. “We are collaborating with state governments, the private sector, and development partners to empower Nigerians with the tools and knowledge to access affordable housing.”

According to the Minister, one of the major setbacks in housing delivery lies in the lack of technical expertise and planning capacity at the state level. To address this, the ministry plans to deploy housing reform champions as special advisers to governors and organize State Housing Roundtables to review existing housing plans.

“We will provide technical advisory, develop practical roadmaps, and offer hands-on support to ensure viable projects are developed and financing is unlocked,” Dangiwa said.

He added that the programme would align with existing federal housing initiatives, allowing states to tap into funding and technical resources from institutions such as the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company, Family Homes Funds, Shelter Afrique Development Bank, and the MoFI Real Estate Investment Fund.

Dangiwa also announced plans to establish an Experts-led National Housing Policy Coordination and Monitoring Committee to oversee the implementation of the National Housing Policy and related sector initiatives.

“Housing is not just a structure; it is fundamental to health, dignity, productivity, and national stability. We are not only building homes but investing in people and the future,” he stated.

The Minister noted that due to limited government resources, partnerships with private developers are being encouraged through Public-Private Partnerships to develop the Renewed Hope Cities targeting mid to high-income earners. So far, he said, the initiative has attracted over N70 billion in private capital.

Commending the organisers of the Africa International Housing Show, Dangiwa said the platform has remained consistent in driving conversations around housing development.

In his remarks, the convener of the housing show, Festus Adebayo, described the event as a convergence of ideas, innovations, and stakeholders working toward sustainable housing solutions for Africa.

“This is more than a show; it is where impactful partnerships are forged, where new ideas are exchanged, and where business meets development,” Adebayo said. “Let’s continue to build the future of Africa together.”
