The Federal Government has officially launched the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and expansion works on the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway section one and the Lagos-Sagamu Phase Two project in Ogun State, as part of its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda’s infrastructure development.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, emphasized that the upgrading of these projects reflects his administration’s dedication to improving the safety of road users, reducing travel time, promoting economic prosperity, and ensuring the durability of infrastructure to meet international standards.

The President urged road users to exercise patience during the construction process and called on the contractor to work diligently to complete the projects as scheduled, aligning with the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and ease of business.

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, also spoke at the event, noting that the first phase of the project, which covers the stretch between Lagos and Sagamu, has already been completed. He explained that phase two of the project, which was officially flagged off, would include the construction of five pedestrian bridges and two flyovers.

Umahi expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing the completion of inherited projects across the country. He also commended Governor Abiodun for his passion and commitment to infrastructure development in Ogun State and the broader South West region. He reiterated the government’s dedication to rehabilitating, reconstructing, and completing various road projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Akin Alabi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, described the event as a significant milestone that would have a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.

In his address, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, Babatunde Ajayi, urged the federal government to address traffic management issues on the Sagamu and Ilisan-Ilabo road axes. He recommended the installation of overpasses or speed bumps to prevent accidents caused by overspeeding in the area.

The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders, including Ministry officials led by Controller Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, and her Ogun State counterpart, Mrs. Forosola Oloyede.
