FCT ADC declares support for David Mark

The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the African Democratic Congress has thrown its weight behind the party’s National Working Committee led by David Mark, amid ongoing leadership disputes within the party.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the FCT Publicity Secretary, Nwigbo Samuel, reaffirmed the chapter’s loyalty to the Mark-led leadership and called on members across the country to prioritise unity and internal conflict resolution.

“The FCT chapter of ADC stands firmly with the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee and urges all members to align with this position for the sake of peace and collective progress,” the statement read.

The chapter cautioned aggrieved members against resorting to litigation, warning that legal battles could deepen divisions within the party.

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. We encourage members with grievances to explore internal dispute resolution mechanisms rather than pursuing court cases that may weaken the party and create opportunities for external interference,” Samuel stated.

Appealing to party leaders to step in, the FCT chapter stressed the need for reconciliation and inclusiveness.

“We call on leaders at all levels to intervene and restore calm. Let us embrace sportsmanship and ensure that no member feels sidelined,” the statement added.

The endorsement comes at a time of heightened tension within the ADC, following disagreements among factions over the party’s leadership structure.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had recently withdrawn recognition of the Mark-led leadership in compliance with a court directive to maintain the status quo pending the determination of a suit challenging his position.

The electoral body also removed the names of Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal and declined to recognise Nafiu Bala, who is seeking to be declared national chairman through the courts.

The leadership crisis has triggered protests, including the #OccupyINEC demonstration held in Abuja, where prominent political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi joined party members to express dissatisfaction with the electoral body’s see actions.

Reiterating its stance, the FCT chapter urged members to focus on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.

“Our collective interest as a party must come before individual ambitions. If ADC succeeds, it is a victory for all members and Nigerians at large,” the statement concluded.
