National Chairman and Convener of New Nigeria Movement, Dr. Victor Taiwo, alongside other stakeholders, emphasized regionalism as the imperative solution to Nigeria’s current economic and security crises during a book launch in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Dr. Taiwo underscored the efficacy of regionalism in managing Nigeria’s diverse population, stating, “Nigeria is facing unprecedented challenges where governance institutions have collapsed without visible prospects of revival. This dire situation has led to widespread hunger, insecurity, and significant capital flight, signaling an urgent national emergency.”
Highlighting Nigeria’s past successes under regional governance, Dr. Taiwo remarked, “Historically, Nigeria thrived under a competitive regional system with leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Ahmadu Bello at the helm. It’s clear that restructuring to restore regional autonomy or true federalism is the only viable solution to our current crises.”
Explaining his motivation for writing the books, Dr. Taiwo stressed, “Writing serves as a powerful medium to convey critical messages to a broader audience. These books contain profound truths about Nigeria’s present predicament, predictions I made years ago which were unfortunately disregarded by past leaders.”
Echoing Dr. Taiwo’s sentiments, retired Hon. Justice Owoade clarified, “The call for regionalism is not a call for secession but a strategic restructuring aimed at fostering national greatness. We must rectify the imbalance in our current system to achieve true federalism where regions contribute meaningfully to national development.”
Similarly advocating for restructuring, Baale of Ekotedo and Chairman of the Yoruba World Assembly, Chief Taye Ayorinde emphasized, “Nigeria requires bold leadership akin to a lion’s courage and an eagle’s swiftness to steer the nation back on course.”
The stakeholders collectively urged national unity and a proactive approach to implement regionalism as a pathway to resolve Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges and restore its greatness.
