Mexican authorities have detained former football star Omar Bravo, 45, over allegations of child sexual abuse.
In a statement released by the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, officials said preliminary investigations suggest Bravo allegedly assaulted a teenage girl multiple times in recent months and may have been involved in similar incidents in the past.
The former striker was taken into custody during an operation in Zapopan and is expected to face a court hearing soon.
Bravo, a legend at Chivas de Guadalajara, holds the record as the club’s all-time top scorer. He also represented Mexico at the 2004 Athens Olympics and featured in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Attempts by the Associated Press to reach Bravo’s legal representatives were unsuccessful.
Following the news, Bravo’s Instagram page, where his last post dates back to September 8, was flooded with mixed reactions.
While some fans expressed disappointment, others shared words of support and disbelief, calling him their “idol.”
Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
