Former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who represented Ojo Constituency I, Hon. Victor Akande, has passed away.
The seasoned politician and legal practitioner died on Wednesday from complications sustained in a recent automobile accident that occurred in Ojo last week.
Akande was widely known for his dedication to public service and his legal expertise.
His death comes as a shock to colleagues and constituents alike, many of whom recall his passionate advocacy for justice and human rights while in the legislature.
He was said to have been receiving treatment following the crash, but his condition worsened, ultimately leading to his demise.
The late lawmaker served two consecutive terms in the Lagos Assembly between 2015 and 2023. He was first elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, a victory that marked the beginning of his impactful legislative career.
Ahead of the 2019 elections, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he secured a second term in office.
During his time in the House, Akande chaired the Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission.
In this role, he played a pivotal part in legislative oversight and championed causes aimed at protecting civil liberties and strengthening the rule of law in Lagos State.
Beyond politics, Akande was a trained lawyer who practiced law before venturing fully into governance.
His colleagues have described him as articulate, principled, and deeply committed to both his legal and legislative duties. His dual expertise in law and politics earned him respect among his peers in the Assembly.
Tributes have begun pouring in from political allies, legal colleagues, and constituents, many of whom remember him for his humility and dedication to the welfare of the people of Ojo. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
