Ex-Juventus star Zigoni slams Orban over Verona fan clash

Former Juventus forward, Gianfranco Zigoni, has weighed in on the recent incident involving Hellas Verona forward Gift Orban, suggesting the Nigerian striker appeared overwhelmed during his confrontation with a supporter.

The episode occurred in the car park of the Stadio Bentegodi shortly after Verona’s 1-0 Serie A home defeat to AC Milan on Sunday.

Orban, while driving out of the stadium, reportedly stopped his vehicle after a comment from a fan, stepped out, and engaged physically with the supporter.

The scene unfolded in front of other fans who were still hoping for autographs and photos.

Although Orban has since issued an apology over the incident, Zigoni, speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, criticised the reaction while offering sympathy for those involved.

“It’s an pen gesture. I feel very sorry for everyone involved. It is clear that Orban was very nervous but a player must always be proud of the support of the fans, even more so when things are as negative as it is for Verona,” the 81-year-old said in quotes revealed by Tutto Mercato Web.

“It may be that he felt down, and just wanted to leave, but people are there for the team, for the passion, for the love they have for Hellas.

“It’s there for you too and you have to be grateful.”
