Former France striker, Wissam Ben Yedder, has been found guilty of psychological violence against his estranged wife and handed a hefty €90,000 fine by a French court on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old, who chose not to be present when the verdict was delivered, will challenge the ruling, according to his lawyer, Marie Roumiantseva.
This latest judgment adds to a growing list of legal troubles for the ex-Monaco and Sevilla forward. In November 2023, he was handed a two-year suspended prison term for the sexual assault of a woman two months earlier.
A year before that, a Spanish court convicted him of tax fraud during his time at Sevilla, giving him a six-month suspended sentence.
Ben Yedder also remains under investigation, along with his brother Sabri, over allegations of raping two women in 2023, claims both men strongly deny.
In the most recent case, prosecutors had sought an eight-month suspended sentence and a €10,000 fine.
Instead, judges imposed a significantly larger financial penalty: €90,000, of which €60,000 is to be split equally between damages to his wife and her legal costs. The pair are currently in divorce proceedings.
Once a prolific goalscorer and former captain at AS Monaco, where he sits second on the club’s all-time scoring chart, Ben Yedder has been without a team since leaving Iranian side Sepahan earlier this year.
