Former Belgium international, Steven Defour, has urged Super Eagles striker, Tolu Arokodare, to move past the uncertainty surrounding his future and concentrate on delivering goals for Genk.
Arokodare has been the subject of transfer speculation following his impressive goal return last season.
However, this campaign, the forward has found himself behind South Korea’s Hyeon-gyu Oh in the pecking order.
Speaking to Voetbal Primeur, Defour expressed belief in the 23-year-old’s ability to handle the situation positively despite his lack of goals so far.
“It’s unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to score yet, but I think he is coping well,” the 37-year-old said. “He doesn’t let his head drop, and that’s why it’s important he gains confidence, especially with games like the one against Poznan.”
Defour added that rediscovering his scoring touch could eventually determine Arokodare’s next career move.
Standing tall at 6’6, Arokodare is a commanding figure in attack and has inevitably drawn interest from several European clubs after his prolific campaign with Genk.
Unverified reports linked Manchester United have to the Nigerian forward who described the links as a huge honour, given his childhood dream of playing in the Premier League for the club he supported.
Beyond United, the 24-year-old has also been linked to Atalanta, Burnley, and other top-flight sides this summer. Newly-promoted Burnley have reportedly stepped up their pursuit as they seek to bolster their frontline.
The Lancashire outfit are believed to hold “serious interest” in Arokodare, who ended last season as the Belgian Pro League’s top scorer with 21 goals.
