Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder, Thomas Partey, has been granted conditional bail after appearing in court to face multiple serious charges.

The 32-year-old was formally charged with five counts of rape involving two women, as well as an additional charge of sexual assault against a third woman.

Partey appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, just days after his departure from Arsenal upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

The alleged incidents are reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during his time with the North London club.

During the court session, Partey, dressed in a black zip-up jumper and carrying a navy blazer, stood in the dock with his arms behind his back.

He confirmed his name and acknowledged that he understood the bail conditions imposed upon him.

As part of his bail terms, Partey has been prohibited from contacting the three women involved and must inform the police of any permanent change of address or plans to travel abroad.

The charges stem from a police investigation launched in February 2022, following an initial report of rape.

Partey is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on September 2. His legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, previously stated that the footballer “completely denies all the charges against him” and is eager to “clear his name” in court.
