Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford: Classy Chris Wood double powers first Premier League victory of season
Chris Wood bagged a brace as Nottingham Forest outclassed Brentford 3-1 in the Premier League, making it a harsh debut for new Bees boss Keith Andrews.
The Irishman, stepping up from set-piece duties to replace Thomas Frank after his summer move to Tottenham, watched his side unravel in the first half. Wood struck twice, his opener coming from a corner, with debutant Dan Ndoye also finding the net in between.
Forest looked every inch a side ready for the demands of both the Premier League and European competition, which they return to for the first time since 1996.
With Nuno Espirito Santo’s call for more players answered before kick-off, as Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were presented, the hosts appear well equipped for the campaign ahead.
Morgan Gibbs-White shone, supplying a superb assist for Wood’s second, and thought he had won a penalty after tangling with Sepp van den Berg.
Instead, Brentford were given a spot-kick at the other end, which Igor Thiago dispatched to give Andrews brief respite.
Ultimately, the Bees, deprived of talisman Yoane Wissa, were thoroughly second best. Andrews will need a swift response if he is to lift Brentford to Premier League standard.
