The Nigeria Immigration Service has apprehended a man identified as Obi Levi Obieze, a native doctor from Enugu State, who was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force for his alleged involvement in the abduction and ritual killing of a 13-year-old girl.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, May 29, 2025, by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the arrest was made by officers of the Lagos State Border Patrol Command at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road as the suspect attempted to flee the country on a motorcycle.
“The suspect, Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, was intercepted while trying to escape through the Seme border. He is currently in our custody,” Akinlabi confirmed.
He added that the arrest was made possible through actionable intelligence, and the suspect’s identity was verified using a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) slip found on him.
Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu community, Enugu State, is alleged to have participated in the abduction of a teenage girl on May 27, 2025. Reports indicate that the girl was kidnapped by a group of three men while accompanying her father to the farm. She was later rescued by the police from a shrine allegedly linked to Obieze.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime.
“The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has been briefed and has ordered full cooperation with the Nigeria Police to ensure the suspect is handed over for detailed investigation and prosecution,” the spokesperson added.
He further emphasized the NIS’s commitment to national security, stating, “This arrest underscores the Immigration Service’s resolve to prevent criminal elements from using our borders as escape routes. We will continue to strengthen border surveillance to support national safety.”
The case is expected to be transferred to the Nigeria Police Force in due course for further legal action.
