The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has officially canceled all planned Sallah durbar celebrations in the emirate, citing credible security threats.

The announcement was made during a press briefing at the Kofar Kudu palace on Wednesday.

The former Central Bank Governor revealed that the decision followed extensive consultations with the Kano State Government, which presented compelling evidence of potential security breaches.

“After a series of advice, the emirate council has cancelled the Sallah Durbar activities,” Sanusi declared.

The monarch issued specific directives to traditional rulers across the emirate, stating: “Therefore, we are directing all our district heads, wards and village heads to strictly adhere and stay in their location to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.”

This development comes a day after Kano’s joint security agencies reaffirmed their ban on all durbar activities across the state. The security agencies had maintained their position that such large gatherings could be exploited to disrupt public order.
