Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion, was reportedly stabbed multiple times in prison and rushed to a hospital on Monday, according to officials.
The 32-year-old musician, born Daystar Peterson, sustained 14 stab wounds, leading to the collapse of both lungs, a statement posted on his verified Instagram account revealed.
“He is now breathing on his own,” the statement shared Monday evening read. “Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through.”
The attack reportedly took place around 7:20 a.m. in the yard of California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed that Lanez was assaulted by another inmate and subsequently transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical care.
Prison staff responded promptly to the situation and administered initial medical assistance. Both CCI and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office have opened investigations into the incident.
Though corrections officials did not confirm the extent of Lanez’s injuries, the Instagram statement detailed that he suffered seven stab wounds to the back, four to his torso, two on the back of his head, and one on the left side of his face.
Lanez was convicted in December 2022 following a jury trial for the July 12, 2020, shooting of Megan Thee Stallion outside reality star Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills residence.
He faced three felony charges: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered weapon in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Despite pleading not guilty, he was found guilty, with prosecutors stating he harassed and intimidated Megan, real name Megan Pete—for more than two years after the shooting.
Following Monday’s attack, Lanez expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers, his Instagram statement noted.
