A prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, has described the Social Democratic Party as a mere extension of the All Progressives Congress.
Galadima specifically referred to the SDP as a “factionalized branch” of the ruling party.
He made these comments while appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme on Tuesday.
His statement comes in the wake of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent defection from the APC to the SDP.
Recall that El-Rufai has been actively encouraging notable politicians to join the SDP, aiming to build a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
El-Rufai, before his resignation from the APC, had become increasingly critical of the party’s direction under Tinubu.
He cited a growing disconnect between his personal values and the APC’s current trajectory as his reason for leaving.
However, Galadima remained firm in his position, asserting that the NNPP is a party based on principles and would not enter into coalitions merely for political gain. “The SDP is simply a factionalized branch of the APC. How many non-APC members have defected to the SDP?” he questioned.
He further criticized the APC’s approach to opposition, stating, “The APC’s character is to decimate the opposition. We must start opposing based on principles, even if it means standing alone. The NNPP is a party of principle and will not enter into coalitions for their own sake.”
