The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has announced a power outage affecting parts of Lagos following a fire incident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the electricity distribution company said the disruption was caused by a vehicle collision involving a stationary gas tanker, which triggered a fire and damaged critical power infrastructure.
According to EKEDC, the blaze severely impacted the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, destroying key components necessary for electricity supply.
“Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred after a vehicle collided with a stationary gas tanker,” the company stated.
“The resulting inferno caused extensive damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including conductors and overhead line equipment, thereby disrupting power supply in the affected areas.”
The company assured residents that efforts were ongoing to restore electricity, noting that its technical team had begun repairs on the damaged installations.
“Our engineers are working diligently to replace the affected components and restore supply as quickly and safely as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the statement added.
Areas impacted by the outage include Sangotedo, Awoyaya, Eputu, Majek, Fidiso, Kajola, Onisan, and other communities connected to the Ibeju and Medallion feeders.
The outage follows a recent gas explosion in the Ajah axis of Lagos, which reportedly claimed lives and destroyed properties after a collision involving a gas tanker and a truck.
Residents in the affected communities have been advised to remain cautious while repair works continue, as authorities work to safely restore electricity supply.
