The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested former Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker Moses Thomas Sule and 14 other former lawmakers for alleged money laundering and abuse of procurement processes.

The arrests were made on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, by operatives of the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate.

Those arrested alongside the former Speaker include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.

The arrests followed complaints from concerned citizens about the former legislators’ alleged violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Investigations uncovered that the lawmakers, who served only six months in office, were provided with luxury vehicles worth approximately N2.5 billion by the state government for official use.

According to EFCC findings, “Upon leaving office, the vehicles should have been returned to the state government, but the legislators retained them, and all attempts to retrieve them have been unsuccessful.”

This forced the state government to procure a new set of vehicles worth about N2 billion for the current assembly members.

The EFCC stated that the former Speaker and his colleagues will soon be arraigned in court to face charges related to the alleged financial misconduct.
