Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has reaffirmed his commitment to a strong partnership with Governor Monday Okpebholo, emphasising that there will be no rift between them.
In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Idahosa stressed that his focus remains on serving the people of Edo State, with the ultimate goal of prioritising their interests over personal or political differences.
Idahosa’s comments come in the wake of the troubled relationship between former Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Phillip Shuaibu, who publicly revealed a bitter fallout due to Shuaibu’s ambitions to succeed Obaseki.
This led to a series of tensions, including attempts to impeach Shuaibu and personal threats.
In contrast, Idahosa and Okpebholo appear to share a cohesive vision for the state’s development, with Idahosa highlighting the importance of complementing the governor’s plans and supporting the fulfillment of campaign promises.
He emphasised that their primary focus is on advancing human capital development and ensuring the state’s overall progress.
Idahosa’s message of unity and dedication to public service offers a refreshing shift in the state’s political atmosphere, as he reiterated that personal interests should never overshadow the welfare of the Edo people.
“By the grace of God Almighty, nobody should expect any misunderstanding between me and my principal,” he stated. “Our ultimate goal is to put the Edo people first.
“We are here for a purpose, just to develop the state and the people in terms of human capital development,” Idahosa explained.
“For me, the office of the Deputy Governor is to complement the plans and visions of the governor, to support and ensure that most of our campaign promises are fulfilled.”
This commitment to cooperation and public service is a breath of fresh air in Edo State’s politics. As Idahosa emphasised, “If there’s going to be a personal interest that will supersede the interest of the Edo people, then I don’t think I’m worthy to be in the seat.”
