Ebonyi gov suspends 85 officials for failing to attend govt function

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has taken decisive disciplinary action by suspending 85 senior government officials for their failure to attend an important government function.

The suspended officials include 25 commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants, 24 Special Assistants, and 22 Permanent Secretaries across various ministries and departments in the state.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, the governor directed that “the under listed Government functionaries proceed on one month working suspension without Salary for failure to attend an important Government Function.”

The suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month during which the affected officials will not receive their salaries.

The governor issued specific directives regarding the suspension. All suspended officials are barred from signing any official documents during their suspension period.

Commissioners have been ordered to hand over their responsibilities to their respective Permanent Secretaries to ensure continuity in government operations. The comprehensive list of suspended officials includes high-profile names such as Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam (Works Commissioner), Prof. Leonard Uguru (Education Commissioner), Dr. Mathew Nwobashi (Health Commissioner), along with 22 other commissioners.

Other affected officials include Senior Special Assistants like Hon. Bassey Chukwu, Mrs. Rose Ofoke, and Mr. Kerian Ofoke; Special Assistants including Mr. Mbam Emmanuel and Tobias Ogbonna; and Permanent Secretaries such as Dr. Lawrence Ezeogo and Dr. Isioma C Arunne-Inyang. The full list encompasses officials from various sectors of the state government.
