A coordinated operation by the Department of State Services and the Nigerian military in Niger State has successfully dislodged a large group of heavily armed bandits linked to notorious terrorist leaders Dogo Gide and Leyi.
Security sources revealed that the operation commenced on Tuesday when the terrorists attacked Chibani village in Munya Local Government Area, killing one Ayuba Isah and injuring two others—a policeman and Alhaji Shuaibu—who sustained gunshot wounds.
The situation escalated on Wednesday when over 200 bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, launched an assault on a security base in Kuchi town, also in Munya LGA.
A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of scores of bandits, while many others fled with varying degrees of injuries.
According to Vanguard, a security source attributed the success of the operation to reinforcements deployed from Galadima Kogo to Kuchi, which significantly weakened the bandits’ resistance.
In a related development, another security operative reported sighting large herds of cattle—suspected to be rustled—crossing the Kusasu River in Galadima Kogo District, Shiroro LGA. The cattle were reportedly being moved toward a suspected hideout in the Borisudna/Kwaki axis of the same LGA.
The source confirmed that DSS operatives and Nigerian Army troops in the area have requested aerial support from the Nigerian Air Force to track and eliminate the fleeing bandits.
“We are optimistic that the Air Force will be able to smoke out the remaining terrorists,” the source stated.
