The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a domestic worker, identified as Divine Nnalue, for allegedly stealing his employer’s vehicle and fleeing the area.

The incident occurred at Trinity Avenue, located within the Federal Housing Estate in the 33 area near Onitsha. Nnalue, who had been working as a domestic aide, allegedly made away with a black Toyota Camry with registration number ENU 289 JF.

According to the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended on June 13, 2025, in Ugbeji-Okpanam, a community near Asaba in neighbouring Delta State. His arrest followed a detailed intelligence-led investigation by officers from the 33 Police Division.

“Based on credible intelligence, operatives from the 33 Police Division traced and arrested one Divine Nnalue in Ugbeji-Okpanam, Delta State. He had absconded with his employer’s Toyota Camry,” Ikenga confirmed in a statement issued on Monday.

The suspect, upon interrogation, reportedly confessed to selling the stolen car to an unknown buyer. Ikenga added that the police are actively working with the information obtained from the suspect to locate and recover the vehicle, as well as apprehend any accomplices involved in the sale.

“We are following up on the suspect’s confession to ensure that the vehicle is recovered and any other persons involved are brought to justice,” the police spokesman said.

Ikenga stressed that the arrest reflects the police command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, particularly in cases involving breaches of trust.

“This case demonstrates our unwavering resolve to bring offenders to book and protect the rights and belongings of residents in Anambra,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant when hiring domestic workers and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies promptly.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
