As Nigeria marks its 26th year of uninterrupted democracy, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law, defending human rights, and fostering inclusive governance.

The governor made this known in a Democracy Day message released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt.

Fubara highlighted the significance of the day as a moment for reflection and reaffirmation of democratic values. He urged citizens to work together across political divides to strengthen democratic institutions and build a just society.

“Our administration remains committed to fairness, transparency, and accountability,” the governor stated. “We are working to create a system where every citizen, regardless of political background, feels heard, protected, and empowered to contribute to the state’s progress.”

Reflecting on recent political tensions in the state, Fubara acknowledged that the challenges served as a reminder of democracy’s fragility and the need for collective responsibility in preserving it.

“We have faced trials, but our resolve remains strong. Democracy must be protected and nurtured to remain meaningful,” he said. “We owe it to ourselves and future generations to uphold the principles that guide democratic governance.

The governor emphasized his administration’s efforts to secure lives and property through enhanced security measures while promoting policies that foster openness and inclusion.

“We’ve intentionally championed inclusive governance, accountability, and civil liberties. The focus is to build a Rivers State where unity, peace, and justice are the cornerstones of our shared development,” he added.

Fubara also called on citizens to embrace patriotism and responsibility, describing the period as a call to action. “Now more than ever, we must summon our collective energy, innovation, and commitment to confront the challenges ahead.”

He concluded by acknowledging the contributions of past leaders and freedom fighters who laid the foundation of the present democratic system, urging the people of Rivers State to honour their sacrifices by actively participating in shaping the state’s future.

“Our journey may have its setbacks, but I believe that together, we can build a stronger and more united Rivers State,” Fubara stated. “Let us each play our part in creating a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous society.”
