Former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has weighed in on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s potential 2027 presidential bid.
Momodu believes Atiku’s future in politics is in God’s hands and destiny.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Momodu said that there was nowhere in the world that age was used as a yardstick to qualify or disqualify people from running for political offices.
Atiku, who served under Olusegun Obasanjo, has unsuccessfully run for president six times.
Despite this, his body language suggests another run in 2027 under the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor, recently advised Atiku against running again. However, Momodu disagrees, stating age shouldn’t disqualify Atiku. He cited Joe Biden as an example.
Momodu questioned the impact of younger politicians, asking what they’ve achieved with available resources. He believes it’s Atiku’s decision whether to run or not.
Regarding a potential threat to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, Momodu remained non-committal. He acknowledged some view Atiku as the only viable option and a threat if he can galvanize a major party.
Atiku’s decision will significantly impact Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
“What has been the impact of these younger people who said they have been in politics? Go and check their states, what have they done for the amount of money made available to them?
” Age cannot be an automatic qualification or disqualification in politics. Who would have expected Joe Biden to come after Obama? It is up to God and destiny. I am a child of destiny and that is why I have contentment.
“If Alhaji Atiku decides to run, good luck to him. If he doesn’t want to run, no problem. It’s not for anybody to muzzle him, why are they afraid of him?” He questioned.
Rather he said, “I am sure they believe so. I know those who believe he is the only one right now. He will be a threat if he is able to galvanise a major political party.”
