New Chelsea signing, Liam Delap, has shared his excitement after making a memorable debut in the Blues’ Club World Cup opener against Los Angeles FC.
The 22-year-old striker, who joined from Ipswich Town this summer after the club activated his £30 million release clause, was introduced in the second half by manager Enzo Maresca, with Chelsea already ahead 1-0 courtesy of a Pedro Neto goal.
Delap made an immediate impact, setting up Enzo Fernandez for the second goal in the 79th minute to help seal the win.
Speaking to Channel 5 after the game, Delap said, “It’s a really happy feeling for me. I’m so excited to be here and to play my first game and be able to contribute is a good feeling. The team have welcomed me really well. I have only had a few sessions here but I am excited for more.”
When asked if fans can expect more assists from him, he added, “Yes of course it is good to help the team but I want to score some as well.”
It was a promising start for the young forward as he looks to make his mark at Stamford Bridge.
