Former Senate President, David Mark, has officially parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party, a political party he helped build for decades, citing unending internal disputes and a weakened leadership structure.
According to The PUNCH, a resignation letter dated June 27 and addressed to the PDP Chairman in his Otukpo Ward, Benue State, Mark expressed deep disappointment over the state of affairs within the party.
The letter, obtained on Wednesday, revealed that he had taken the decision after careful consultation with his family, friends, and political allies.
“I have remained loyal to the PDP even in its darkest days. Despite the mass defection that followed the 2015 general election, I stood firm, committed to the ideals of the party,” Mark stated in the letter.
“But today, the persistent leadership crisis and internal divisions have eroded the very soul of the PDP and brought it to public disrepute.”
Mark lamented that his efforts at reconciliation and repositioning the PDP were no longer yielding results. “The party I joined and helped to nurture is no longer what it used to be. It has been reduced to a mere shadow of its former self,” he added.
The former lawmaker further revealed that he has now aligned with a new political front, the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, which he described as a platform committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and promoting national unity.
“In the interest of our nation and the future of democracy, I have resolved to join hands with other well-meaning Nigerians in a new coalition that aims to offer a credible alternative,” he said.
