The Nigeria Customs Service has disowned a viral press release falsely claiming that candidates have been shortlisted for a Computer-Based Test in its ongoing recruitment exercise.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, described the information making rounds on social media and messaging platforms as entirely fake and misleading.

“The attention of the Nigeria Customs Service has been drawn to a fake press release currently circulating on social media and other messaging platforms, falsely announcing the shortlist for a Computer-Based Test,” Maiwada stated.

According to the NCS, the document being circulated did not emanate from the agency and features several red flags, including irregular formatting and an unauthorised e-signature not in line with the Service’s official communication standards.

“The e-signature format differs from our official standard and the recruitment timeline mentioned shows a faulty structure that is not connected to any legitimate process,” the spokesperson added.

The NCS urged members of the public to disregard the fraudulent notice and refrain from engaging with any unverified content related to its recruitment.

“All authentic information about our operations, including recruitment updates, will only be published on our official website, verified social media handles, and credible national newspapers,” the Service emphasized.

Maiwada further revealed that the NCS is working to identify the origin of the false release and will take necessary legal steps against those found culpable.

“We are actively investigating the source of this misinformation and will ensure that those responsible face the appropriate consequences,” he said.

The Customs Service thanked Nigerians for their continued vigilance and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability in all of its processes.

“We remain committed to protecting the public from misinformation and upholding the highest standards in every aspect of our operations,” the statement concluded.
