The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, has intercepted 1,433 rounds of live cartridges and five Dane guns in various locations across the state.

Area Comptroller Godwin Otunla disclosed this on Wednesday during the official handover of the seized arms and ammunition to the Nigeria Police Force in Idiroko. He stated that the transfer was in line with inter-agency collaboration and national security protocols.

Otunla reaffirmed the Customs’ commitment to protecting national security and ensuring economic stability, saying: “The NCS has intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence, and strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, which led to this remarkable achievement.”

He attributed the success to the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, noting that the command also recorded a significant increase in revenue generation—rising from N10,621,250 in April to N42,279,240 in May 2025.

The comptroller listed other intercepted items, including:
– 1,037 parcels of cannabis sativa (coconut-sized)
– 13,125 litres of Premium Motor Spirit
– 2 additional Dane guns and 88 rounds of live cartridges
– 2,627 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each)
– 4 foreign-used vehicles
– 7 vehicles used for smuggling
– 29 bundles of used pneumatic tyres

“The total Duty Paid Value of these seizures stands at N344,853,244,” Otunla said, emphasizing the service’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling and economic sabotage.

The seizures were made across multiple locations in Ogun State, including Lusada/Ado-Odo, Abeokuta, Imeko, Idiroko/Owode, and Ipokia. Otunla expressed concern over the rising interception of arms, ammunition, and cannabis, warning of their damaging effects on youth, public health, and national security.

In his response, Idiroko Area Police Commander Bukoye Oye commended the NCS for the seizures, stating: “The Police will do the needful by conducting the necessary investigation.”

He reiterated the police command’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the NCS and other security agencies to enhance national security.
