The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has called for the immediate resignation of party members identified as coordinators for the African Democratic Congress.

The demand was contained in a Thursday statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Mike Ojisi.

While acknowledging members’ constitutional right to freedom of association, Ojisi emphasized that the PDP strictly prohibits dual party membership.

“The State Working Committee has noted a publication naming some SWC members and Chapter Chairmen as ADC coordinators in Cross River State,” Ojisi stated. “The SWC, therefore, urges those named to be honourable and either publicly denounce the publication or resign their PDP positions within 48 hours. Otherwise, the party will apply the relevant disciplinary provisions of its constitution against them.”

The party spokesperson clarified that the PDP remains independent of any political coalitions, citing the resolution from its recent 100th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja. Ojisi called on all Executive Committee members to maintain loyalty to the PDP and avoid actions that could be construed as defection or anti-party activities.

“The SWC reassures members that the party remains committed to its founding values and principles,” Ojisi affirmed. He added that despite Cross River currently being under All Progressives Congress governance, the PDP would continue working to promote development in the state.

Ojisi concluded with an optimistic message to party faithful: “The party would continue working to promote governance and development in Cross River, currently under APC. He urged members to remain hopeful, saying better days lie ahead when the PDP will regain its winning ways.”
