The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled June 27, 2025, to deliver its judgment on a lawsuit filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan challenging her suspension from the Senate.

According to Channels, Justice Binta Nyako fixed the date on Monday after hearing arguments from both the legal representatives of the suspended senator and the Senate leadership.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, had sued the National Assembly, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, Senator Neda Imasuen, among others, following her suspension over allegations of misconduct.

“My client has submitted all necessary documents in compliance with the court’s directive from the previous sitting,” her lawyer, Jibrin Okutekpa (SAN), informed the court.

The matter was reassigned to Justice Nyako after Justice Obiorah Egwuatu withdrew from the case.

Representing the Senate and Senate President, Paul Daudu (SAN) and Ekwo Ejembi drew the court’s attention to a motion accusing Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of contempt. They alleged she violated a court order by publishing a satirical letter addressed to the Senate President on her Facebook page and in national newspapers on March 27.

In response, Michael Numan (SAN), counsel for the plaintiff, argued that the senator had no connection to the alleged publication.

“There is no direct link between the statement in question and my client,” Numan said. “Moreover, a counter-motion had earlier been filed to challenge the alleged disobedience by the defendants themselves.”

Justice Nyako adjourned the matter for judgment after taking submissions from both sides.
