A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an interim injunction halting the scheduled Peoples Democratic Party South-South Zonal Congress, which was set to take place in Calabar, Cross River State, on Saturday.
The court, presided over by Justice G.V. Obomanu, ordered that the congress should not be held in Cross River or any other location in Nigeria until the motion on notice is determined.
The ruling followed a suit filed by Tony Ejiogu, a PDP member from Ward 3 in Etche Local Government Area, and Field Nkoro, the former Vice-Chairman of the Southeast PDP.
The suit named the PDP and the National Vice-Chairman of the South-South zone of the PDP, Dan Orbih, as defendants.
In the court order issued on Friday, the judge restrained the defendants, their agents, and associates from conducting the congress on February 22 or any other date until the motion on notice is resolved.
The court directed all parties to maintain the status quo as it stood on February 20, pending further hearings.
Additionally, the claimants were granted permission to serve the originating and subsequent legal processes to the defendants through substituted means. This includes posting the documents at the gate of the PDP South-South zonal headquarters in Port Harcourt or publishing the order in a widely circulated national newspaper.
