A man identified as Nasiru Gwallaga has been convicted for setting ablaze a Federal Road Safety Corps patrol vehicle in Bara village, located in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident occurred in 2023.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, the FRSC Sector Commander in Bauchi State, Istifanus Ibrahim, confirmed the development, noting that Gwallaga has been mandated to pay N150 million as compensation for the destroyed vehicle.

Gwallaga, along with two other individuals, was also sentenced to one year in prison or, alternatively, a fine of N15,000 each.

They were found guilty of conspiracy to commit obstruction, obstructing civil servants, and assaulting public officers during the execution of their duties.

The sentencing was handed down by Justice Safiya Doma at the Chief Magistrate Court in Fadama Mada, Bauchi, on June 23, 2025.

According to the Sector Commander, the convict was additionally ordered to pay N170,000 for damages to a Samsung Galaxy phone belonging to the Acting Unit Commander at the time.

He was also held responsible for inflicting bodily harm on FRSC personnel.

“All the convicts were ordered to pay N50,000, representing the cost spent in prosecuting the case by the nominal complainant.

“The Judge ruled that they have a right of appeal to the High Court of Justice within 30 days of the judgment.

“This will serve as a deterrent to those who take the law into their own hands.

“Members of the motoring public are advised to be law-abiding as we are not enemies, but compatriots on the road to save lives and property,” said the Sector Commander.
