Club W’Cup: Gittens joins Dortmund squad after Chelsea move collapsed

After a proposed move to Chelsea collapsed, Borussia Dortmund have officially named Jamie Gittens in their squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.

Chelsea had made an attempt to secure Gittens’ services before the competition kicks off this weekend, submitting a £42 million bid that was ultimately turned down by Dortmund.

Negotiations between the two clubs stalled, and they failed to reach an agreement before the 7pm Tuesday deadline, which marked the end of the first phase of the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports reports that Chelsea remain keen and will make another attempt to land Gittens when the transfer window reopens on Monday.

Had Dortmund opted not to register the 20-year-old attacker for the tournament, Chelsea could have added him to their own squad during the post-group stage registration period.

Dortmund, however, are said to be holding out for a fee close to £55 million (€65 million) for the young talent.
