Fluminense took a playful jab at their Brazilian rivals Botafogo and Flamengo on Monday after securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
The Rio de Janeiro-based club earned a 2-0 win over Italian giants Inter Milan in the Round of 16, thanks to goals from Germán Cano and Hércules at the Bank of America Stadium.
With the victory, Fluminense advanced to the quarter-final stage, where they will meet the winner of the clash between Manchester City and Al Hilal.
Shortly after the match, Fluminense stirred up banter on social media. In a post on its official X account, the club wrote, “Hi, Botafogo! Hi, Flamengo! How’s the weather in Rio de Janeiro?”
Botafogo had earlier crashed out of the tournament following a narrow 1-0 loss to Palmeiras, while Flamengo suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Interestingly, all three clubs, Fluminense, Botafogo, and Flamengo, hail from Brazil, making Fluminense’s jab all the more pointed.
