Chelsea’s Cucurella backs Rashford to thrive at Barcelona

Chelsea defender, Marc Cucurella, has voiced his support for Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona, stating the England international has the qualities needed to thrive in La Liga.

Rashford recently completed a surprise loan switch from Manchester United to Barcelona until the end of the season, a transfer that has generated widespread buzz across the football world.

In a chat with Jijantes, Cucurella—who came through Barça’s La Masia academy, shared optimism about Rashford’s potential at the Catalan club.

He, however, highlighted a key challenge the forward might face in adapting to a new league.

“Good, Good. I like him (Rashford),” Cucurella said. “Physically, I think he’ll do very well in La Liga. He’s very fast and the pace of the leagues is very different. He’s coming off always playing there (Premier League), he’s used to it.

“Here (La Liga), I think he’ll notice that the pace is a little bit inferior to the Premier League, so I think he can do a lot of good work.”

Though Cucurella never made a senior appearance for Barcelona, he spent three seasons in Spain’s top flight with Eibar and Getafe before moving to England to join Brighton and later Chelsea.

With both Chelsea and Barcelona gearing up for Champions League campaigns next season, Cucurella confessed his eagerness to face his former club, albeit on familiar turf.

“I would love it, truly,” Cucurella admitted. “But at Stamford Bridge, playing at Montjuic [Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys] isn’t motivating. [The Camp Nou] will still be in construction, that’s not motivating. I’d forbid that. Playing at a stadium that’s not finished construction takes away all the emotion from the ground.”
