Head coach, Eric Chelle has, officially announced his final 23-man squad of home-based Super Eagles for the 2024 African Nations Championship, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The squad, revealed on Wednesday night, comprises three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders, and seven forwards.

With this final selection, Chelle and his team are set to depart Nigeria for Zanzibar, Tanzania, on Thursday, where they will continue their final preparations for the tournament.

The home-based Super Eagles began their CHAN 2024 training camp two weeks ago at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

As part of their build-up, they featured in a trio of friendly matches, securing a narrow 1-0 win over NPFL champions Remo Stars, followed by a 2-0 victory against Ojodu City, and a 3-1 triumph over Ikorodu City.

The team will travel to Zanzibar via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as they gear up for the tournament’s group stage battles.

Nigeria has been drawn into Group D, where they will face defending champions Senegal, as well as Congo and Sudan. Their campaign opens with a heavyweight clash against Senegal.

The last time the home-based Eagles featured in the tournament, they made an impressive run to the final in 2018 before falling 4-0 to hosts Morocco.

Originally slated for an earlier date, the 2024 CHAN was postponed to August after the Confederation of African Football assessed that preparations in Kenya, one of the host nations, were significantly behind schedule.

The final draw took place on January 15, 2025, a day after the postponement was confirmed, allowing for more qualifying fixtures to determine the last two slots.

This year’s championship kicks off on August 2 and runs until August 30.
