Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has heaped praise on Benjamin Frederick following Nigeria’s triumph over Jamaica in the Unity Cup final on Saturday.
Frederick, who recently signed with Premier League outfit Brentford, made his first appearance for the national team in the clash, putting in a solid and composed display despite the high-stakes occasion.
Remarkably, the 20-year-old defender only linked up with the squad in the United Kingdom a day before kickoff.
Nonetheless, Chelle handed him a surprise start, and the youngster seized the opportunity with maturity beyond his years.
After the match, Chelle commended Frederick’s performance, particularly highlighting his poise and technical finesse.
“Benjamin Frederick was good. He was very calm and composed.
“Technically, he’s close to perfect, especially when it comes to touching the ball and making strong passes,” Chelle stated.
The thrilling encounter between Nigeria and Jamaica ended 2-2 in regulation time, but the Super Eagles clinched the win 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
