The home-based Super Eagles will test their readiness for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship in a double-header friendly against Zanzibar next week.
The two matches are scheduled as part of Nigeria’s final preparations for the continental tournament, which kicks off early next month and features only players active in their domestic leagues.
Éric Chelle’s squad touched down in Zanzibar on Friday and will engage in intensive training ahead of the tune-up games.
The first encounter against Zanzibar is slated for Monday, while the second will take place on Thursday, July 31.
Following the friendlies, the Nigerian contingent is expected to relocate to their official base on the island to settle in ahead of the main competition.
At the CHAN finals, Nigeria will compete in Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.
The Eagles will open their campaign against Senegal on Tuesday, August 7, at the Amman Stadium.
Their second group fixture will be against Sudan, also at the Amman Stadium, on Monday, August 12, before wrapping up the group stage with a clash against Congo at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Monday, August 19.
The 2024 CHAN tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from Saturday, August 2, to Saturday, August 30.
