Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has pointed out three key areas his team must address following their narrow loss to Senegal in their opening match at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
Chelle’s squad, made up of home-based players, fell 1-0 to defending champions Senegal in a tense Group D clash held on Tuesday evening at the Amani Stadium in Tanzania.
The decisive moment came in the second half, when Christian Gomis found the net to hand Senegal all three points and leave Nigeria needing a response in their next outing.
In his post-match press conference, Chelle emphasized the need for mental and physical improvements going forward.
“So we need to improve our state of mind. We need to be more competitive, and more aggressive,” the Malian coach said.
“We will see,” he added.
Nigeria will now shift focus to their second group fixture against Sudan, scheduled for next Tuesday, before rounding off the group stage with a crucial encounter against Congo.
