CDS hails Finland’s ruling over Simon Ekpa’ s terrorism

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has hailed the decision of the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, which on Monday sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years’ imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.

General Musa described the ruling as a milestone in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that it affirms the principle that individuals who incite unrest or bankroll terrorism will face justice irrespective of where they are.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the CDS said, “This judgment sends a strong message that there is no safe haven for individuals or groups who sponsor or encourage acts of terror against Nigeria or any other sovereign state. The Armed Forces of Nigeria commend the Finnish authorities for their diligence in ensuring justice is served.”

The Defence Chief also expressed gratitude to Nigerian security agencies, intelligence services, law enforcement operatives, and diplomats for their commitment and thorough collaboration in supplying the evidence that secured Ekpa’s conviction.

Reaffirming the military’s commitment, General Musa stressed that Nigeria’s Armed Forces will continue to partner with global allies to dismantle terrorist networks and safeguard peace across the country.

He further urged Nigerians to stay alert and give maximum support to security agencies in the continuing battle against insurgency and violent separatist movements.
