CDS, COAS arrive Borno after deadly bomb blast

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. O.O. Oluyede, along with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, have arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, following Monday evening’s triple bombing that left 23 people dead and 108 injured.

According to The Punch both officers touched down on Wednesday at the Maiduguri Air Force Base aboard a white and red-painted jet.

President Bola Tinubu ordered the service chiefs to relocate to Borno in response to the attacks.

In a statement shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, President Tinubu mourned the victims and praised troops for countering coordinated assaults on military positions.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” he said.

The President further added, “I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured.”

Upon arrival, the CDS and COAS were welcomed at the Maiduguri Air Force Base by the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, the GOC, and other senior military officers.
