The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, Rev. Yakubu Pam, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step up efforts in addressing poverty, insecurity, and inclusivity in governance.

Rev. Pam made the appeal in Kaduna during a condolence visit to the Northern CAN Legal Adviser, who recently lost his wife.

While acknowledging the President’s commitment to national development, he stressed that many Nigerians are still battling economic hardship and security threats.

“I believe President Tinubu has good intentions for this country. He has spoken about his plans and is working on the economy, infrastructure, and governance. But we urge him to do more because the challenges, particularly insecurity, remain worrisome,” he said.

On the economy, the CAN leader admitted that hardship is widespread, warning that patience has its limits.

“Anyone saying there is no hardship is not being sincere. The President has explained the situation he met on ground and assured Nigerians that things will improve with time. But a poor man can only endure for so long when hunger persists,” he cautioned.

Rev. Pam also revisited concerns about inclusivity in governance, referencing the controversy over the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2023.

He urged the President to ensure fair representation in appointments, adding, “Mr. President should consider giving Christians more opportunities. By 2027, Christians would also want to be given the chance to lead, because we have capable and competent people.”

Backing the call for state police, he described it as the most viable option for tackling insecurity at the grassroots.

Speaking on the 2027 elections, the CAN leader emphasized caution in political discourse, urging politicians to avoid statements that could spark conflict.

“Power belongs to God. We must guide our words carefully. What the Federal Government must ensure is that the 2027 elections are credible enough to earn Nigeria the respect of the international community,” Rev. Pam stated.
