CAF President Motsepe to visit Senegal amid AFCON controversy

Confederation of African Football President, Patrice Motsepe, is set to visit Senegal in the coming days, weeks after a controversial ruling stripped the nation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, reports Kenyan outlet Tuko.

The CAF Appeals Board decided that Senegal forfeited the final against Morocco after walking off the pitch in protest, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.

The ruling has drawn widespread criticism and strained relations between CAF, Senegal, and Morocco.

Senegal has vowed to contest the decision, filing an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, though a verdict could take up to a year.

Motsepe’s visit to Dakar on Tuesday comes as the governing body seeks to manage the fallout from what has been described as one of its most significant public relations missteps.

Journalist Lassana Camara reported that the South African CAF chief will hold talks with Senegal’s leadership.

“The president of the CAF, Patrice Motsepe, will be in Dakar this Tuesday to try to ease tensions after the invalidation of Senegal’s African Champions title by the CAF Appeals Committee. On the agenda: exchanges with the Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the president of the Senegalese Federation, Abdoulaye Fall,” he noted.
