The Digital Media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has dismissed reports suggesting that the ex-Nigerian leader is in a critical condition and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Ahmad made the clarification on Thursday following widespread rumours about Buhari’s health, which had sparked concern among supporters and Nigerians at large.
“It is true that former President Buhari is unwell and is currently receiving medical attention,” Ahmad confirmed in a statement.
“However, contrary to the exaggerated claims circulating in the media, he is stable and responding well to treatment, and we are optimistic about his full recovery.”
The clarification comes after several online platforms reported that Buhari had been rushed to the ICU, prompting speculation about the state of his health. Ahmad described those reports as misleading and sensationalized.
“In light of the recent media reports suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, we find it necessary to set the record straight,” he said.
Ahmad also took a moment to thank Nigerians and Buhari’s well-wishers for their concern and support during this time.
“We appreciate the outpouring of prayers and goodwill from his supporters and well-wishers around the world. We continue to pray for his complete and speedy recovery. Thank you,” the statement concluded.
