The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the immediate suspension of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa State, Mr Hudu Yunusa-Ari.

According to The PUNCH, the suspension will last until completion of investigation by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, into the conduct/actions of the REC during the recently-concluded controversial supplementary election in Adamawa State.

The Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, revealed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent Thursday night.

Bassey said, “Also, the President has directed investigation by the IGP, Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, of the role of their officers in aiding and abetting the conduct/actions of Yunusa-Ari, and if found culpable, appropriate disciplinary actions, should be meted out to them.”

The statement added that the President also directed the immediate investigation, and prosecution, if found liable, of Yunusa-Ari, by the IG.

It would be recalled that, Yunusa -Ari prematurely declared Binani as the winner, as collation was underway, on Sunday contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The announcement of the Adamawa supplementary governorship election results was postponed till 11 am after – only 10 local government areas were declared earlier, with 10 more LGAs still awaiting the announcement.
