In a startling turn of events, Brazilian football superstar, Neymar could stand to inherit a staggering £846 million from a deceased billionaire he reportedly never met.
Local reports, including RIC via the Daily Mail, claim the billionaire’s will was officially formalized at an office in Porto Alegre and authenticated on June 12 in the presence of two witnesses.
The inheritance, however, still awaits approval from Brazilian courts before Neymar can be formally named as the heir.
Sources suggest the billionaire chose Neymar because the footballer is single and without children.
Additionally, the businessman is said to have felt a personal connection with Neymar, reportedly admiring the player’s strong family ties, particularly his bond with his father, Neymar Sr., which reminded him of his own late father.
Neymar has yet to comment publicly on the reports. Even if the will is validated, legal hurdles could still complicate the transfer of the fortune.
The 33-year-old forward recently returned to his boyhood club Santos in January after a brief and challenging stint with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal.
During the second half of the 2024-25 season, he scored three goals in 14 appearances, adding to the 136 goals he netted in 225 matches during his first spell at the club from 2009 to 2013.
In June, Neymar renewed his contract with Santos, keeping open the possibility of representing Brazil at next year’s World Cup.
