Brazil give update on Neymar injury ahead World Cup

Brazil forward, Neymar, is continuing his recovery from a Grade 2 calf muscle tear, with Brazil’s national team medical staff reporting positive signs in his rehabilitation process.

Although recent MRI results indicate encouraging improvement, his participation in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup opener against Morocco at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday is still not guaranteed.

The 34-year-old forward had originally been sidelined for two to three weeks after sustaining the injury last month and has already missed Brazil’s friendly matches against Panama and Egypt.

Football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, via his X account, cited a statement from the Brazilian Football Confederation, detailing the latest update on the star’s condition. “Neymar underwent MRI on Monday and tests showed a good evolution in his treatment — within the expected parameters.”

The CBF also confirmed the ongoing recovery plan in an official release, adding, “He will follow the recovery preparation process planned by the medical commission of the Brazilian National Team.”

Now 34, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward has been a key figure across Brazil’s last three World Cup campaigns, although his involvement this time has been limited due to recurring injuries, with no appearances for the national team since 2023.
